From http://www.ipmanchess.yolasite.com/amd- ... -bench.php
we see this:
NPS: 431,403,814
8x Intel Xeon Platinum 8168 8x24c/48t
384threads
BMI2
Now, the previous hardware setup had about the same throughput as Deep Blue (considering that the Ipman test set has lots of open positions, the 200M NPS of deep blue {with bursts of a billion} was probably about the same as the 277M NPS measured for the 4x Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 4x28c/56t. But the 431M Nps for the 8x Intel Xeon Platinum 8168 8x24c/48t is surely the fastest chess machine that was ever built.
I would love to see that machine combat AlphaZero.

Deep Blue takes the back seat
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

I think you meant 431B NPS. That does sound impressive.Dann Corbit wrote:From http://www.ipmanchess.yolasite.com/amd- ... -bench.php

And when one adds that 1M nps with Stockfish is about the same strength as DeepBlue (200M nps), that's really frighteningDann Corbit wrote:..., the 200M NPS of deep blue {with bursts of a billion} ...But the 431M Nps for the 8x Intel Xeon Platinum 8168 8x24c/48t is surely the fastest chess machine that was ever built..

No he meant million. How do you think 192 cores can produce 431B nps???Leto wrote:I think you meant 431B NPS. That does sound impressive.Dann Corbit wrote:From http://www.ipmanchess.yolasite.com/amd- ... -bench.php

Are you that much bad in basic maths?

That is not that much impressive as you think.Dann Corbit wrote:Now, the previous hardware setup had about the same throughput as Deep Blue (considering that the Ipman test set has lots of open positions, the 200M NPS of deep blue {with bursts of a billion} was probably about the same as the 277M NPS measured for the 4x Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 4x28c/56t. If this post is true, that 384 core machine that Bojun was using is twice more powerful than that 8xPlatinum conf (unless he was using HT than it is on par).

That benchmark on Ipmanchess's site is the same machine of mine that produced this result in that thread.Milos wrote:That is not that much impressive as you think.Dann Corbit wrote:Now, the previous hardware setup had about the same throughput as Deep Blue (considering that the Ipman test set has lots of open positions, the 200M NPS of deep blue {with bursts of a billion} was probably about the same as the 277M NPS measured for the 4x Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 4x28c/56t. I have also saved the first 760 games here.
Now it is possible to build even larger systems.
So, it's just another arms race.

A friend of mine has a superdome with 256 Itanium chips in it (from a long time ago).
The lights in the city dim when he hits the "on" switch.
