precompiled XBoard 4.8.0 for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit ?

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello,

I use Windows 7 32&64 bit on my computer. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit with https://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbo ... e/download - is there a precompiled edition of XBoard 4.8.0 available that runs on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64 bit?

Same procedure for Wine to run Windows programs on Linux systems.

If not, perhaps anyone of you can host it on website with sufficient data volume e.g. Google Drive https://www.google.com/drive/

Best wishes,
Norbert

Software on Ubuntu is usually installed via online repositories,
you can open your software center and search for xboard (or wine) and then install it.

Alternatively you can download the xboard package for your OS here (amd64 at the bottom)
http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/xboard

After download, double clik the package, then Software Center should open, and you can click install.

Like for all Ubuntu software:

sudo apt-get install xboard
sudo apt-get install polyglot
sudo apt-get install fairymax
sudo apt-get install hachu
sudo apt-get install fruit

You will automatically get it for your own architecture.

If you want the latest versions, I usually have them pre compiled (.DEB, x86-64):

Sorry, but won't survive with ubuntu, if you not master the basics.

If you have problem X on ubuntu, you can always google "ubuntu X".
I googled "Ubuntu xboard" and found:
https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Schach/
Generally the ubuntuusers site is highly recommended.
