its still completely shocking for me to read that in other countries people cannot pay for their medicine.
in many countries here its free.
and we are NOT living under communism.
sad thing.

Re: Steven Edwards RIP...
Really sad news. I met Steven back in either the late 70's or early 80's at an ACM computer chess tournament. I remember two of his programs he competed with, AI Chess and Spectre. We kept in touch and somewhere in 1995 I added support for his endgame table bases. He also generated a few of the 5 piece files (he originally distributed only 3-4 piece files as there was no compression. He also wrote the EPD support for Crafty and then started distributing a generic version as his "EPD kit".
I had wondered what had happened to his perft updates, as once he started on something he never seemed to quit until it was done...
RIP Steven

Re: Steven Edwards RIP...
sad story indeed, i remember that only a few months ago hisDann Corbit wrote: He had many serious medical problems, including diabetes, congestive heart failure and tachycardia. He often had problems paying for his medicines, and I hope that did not play a role.
father passed away, which led to many condolescences here; btw i
still remember his awesome epdpfga routine in crafty with
which i started some of my research in chess openings..

Re: Steven Edwards RIP...
Hello:
I felt sorry when I read that. Not in vain, my first post at TalkChess was in a thread about perft estimates that he started more than five years ago:
Perft(13) betting pool
Since then, I have answered a lot of his threads about perft. I thought that after Ankan's and Peter's confirmations of Perft(14), he could stop posting weekly in his Perft(14) thread because of lack of interest in sharing a track of the project, but the reality seems to be way different.
My condolences.
Regards from Spain.
