Opening book in bin-format

Until now I've been using the database functionality of Scid vs. PC (with Linux Mint). Now I would like to use Scid vs. PC also for the analysis of my games.
There exist a number of very good opening books in ctg and abk format but (in my opinion) only a few in bin forrmat.
Is there a possibility to convert ctg or abk to bin opening books?
Google brings a number of bin books which seem to be a bit out-dated and are rather limited in size and length of opening lines.

I don't know tools ton convert ctg and abk to .bin (polyglot) book. But there are tools to create a .bin book from a a PGN file : https://fr.chess.com/download/view/crea ... essanalyse

I searched for good books some days ago, I found this :
There are 4 books in folder "Scid\bin\books" :

agree, you have to be aware that .bin engine books
usually are not polyglot books (which i found out when
comparing Prodeo winboard with Prodeo Uci with polyglot).
Engine books don't load in polyglot, and loading a polygot
book as (winboard) engine book can crash the engine..(*)

If .bin is the standard for polyglot then i would suggest engine programmers use another extension to avoid confusion, but
this will ofcourse lead to some aggressive reactions i suppose ..


To convert from Arena format to pgn there is a tool abk2pgn
which you can find here:

scroll to further downwards to find it.
NB i presume the game results (in the pgn games) which are
used in the Arena book are saved again to pgn with abk2pgn
because this is important when making a polyglot (or .ctg) book.

PS engines as Crafty and -the outdated- Yace can use the nags
(!! ! or ?) in a pgn file, when generating a book; but this
(sometimes useful) feature is not present in Polyglot, i think.

PS2 (*) the Prodeo.bin is a -good- polyglot book, the mainbook.bin
and tournament.bin on Ed Schroders site are engine books)

depends on which book you have for the GUI..
And/or whether you use a polyglot book (instead of
engine book or GUI book); don't know how good the pure engine
book is for the latest Komodo, but here you can find a polyglot book tailormade for Komodo apparently , and a strong GM book (GM2001)

because the komodo,bin (in the komodo_book.zip) is
a Polyglot book, you have to define the engine (K10.1)
as polyglot engine (install polyglot.exe and then specify
as engine komodo.exe in the polyglot.ini); similar
the book is specified in the polyglot.ini file. Then run it
as Uci engine with engine-book; that should do work..
(it might also be an idea to read the readme.txt
if that's listed somewhere in the polyglot zip download)

(especially HGM) in future it might be worthwile/
useful/to change the extension from eg. .bin to .plg or so.
(but if Hgm says 'no' then it's no-go i presume); in such a
case (.plg books) engine books will be easier recognized
as .bin books, although their formats still then might
be different sometimes, ofcourse.
