Old programs CHAOS and USC

I've been a lurker for a while (so long I don't even remember my old username & password from when I did post) but I remember somebody in here who was gathering up old chess programs.

I remember he did Chess 4.x, and Awit, and Sargon, and Cray Blitz and a few others. Two that were supposed to show up were CHAOS, which was selective search, and USC, which was designed to be taught.

Did those programs ever show up? Does anybody know who the authors were and where they are and maybe check?

Seems like something that should be put on the chess wiki.

I knew the author of Chaos quite well, or at least one of them, Fred Swartz. Carey is the first name of the person you are asking about with respect to collecting old chess programs. I don't remember his last name unfortunately.

Carey Bloodworth. I think he is the same guy who did some very fast pi calculation programs. Here is a link to the chess museum.

Finally heard back from him. Seems he has some issues and depression happening so the project is pretty much dead unless somebody wants to take over.

He said he has managed to get in touch with Zobrist and asked him to maybe send it to Hyatt so it could be saved.

He said he has not been able to recontact Mike Alexander or Fred Swartz of the selective search CHAOS program.

You are talking about Fred? Tell him I said "hello" and that I am certainly willing to try to reconstruct anything from the old days. I've been trying to track down Ed Kozdrowicki for a while now, but have had no luck. He is probably a bit older than I am (assuming he is still living) but I have had no luck locating him. Unusual enough name to search for however... Be nice to get a copy of the old Coko chess program assuming he still has a copy around somewhere.

You'd have to talk with Carey about hosting whatever he has collected of the old programs, as well as whether he found Ed Kozdrowicki.
