Uragano engine parameter ?

Post by carldaman »

Does anyone know what command line parameter must be used to run this Winboard-compatible engine under Arena?

I tried xboard or -xboard, but that failed and Uragano's own GUI opened up instead. The same thing happens with the latest version (0.92) as with the previous ones.

The Uragano website http://www.naddei.it/uragano_3d/ appears out of date and offers no advice in this matter.

Thanks a lot in advance,
CL

Hi,

I run Uragano 0.87 without problem in Arena 3.5.

In the "Command Line", indicate the path to "uragano3d.exe"

Install the engine as Winboard

As far as I remember, I had problems with Uragano 0.90, so maybe check the version of your .exe

Hi,

I also tested the new version Uragano 0.92.

The engine is installed automatically as a UCI engine and doesn't run

Solution : You install the engine with Autodetection and it is now installed with Winboard protocol and runs correctly.

Tip : I noticed that the Autodetection solution can often help with some engines

(A last thing : I run Windows 7 64)

Could you tell us if it works for you ?

After embedding Uragano into Arena-GUI, please close the engine´s own interface and change the protocol-type from "UCI" to "WinBoard" - you can play now e.g. an engine-tournament under Windows 7 32-bit Home Edition

is only a upgrade of .EXE file for people who already have book and graphic files from Uragano 0.86.
Uragano cannot run without its book and graphic files also under winboard

Thanks, Norbert - I did as you suggested but no luck. I get exception errors (see my other reply). It looks like Uragano's interface is not being displayed properly, either, so the problem may be due to some software incompatibility.

(A last thing : I run Windows 7 64)

Could you tell us if it works for you ?
Thanks, Arnaud. I also have Win 7 64-bit and tried what you and Norbert suggested but I get this exception error" "Access violation at address 0046A4EF in module 'uragano3d.exe'. Write of address 00000008." and Uragano won't run.
Update: the same exact error also occurs on my Windows 8.1 64-bit quad.
OK, I got my thinking cap on today and I changed the hash within the Uragano GUI to just 4MB (same can be done from uragano.ini) and the crashes went away. Apparently, this engine does not like it if you try to use too much hash.

Please note that, in both Arena and Task Manager, Uragano shows actual memory usage of about 41-42 MB.

Hope this info helps others, too. :)

Thanks a bunch,
CL
