Well, there's this (otherwise) very strong engine named Stockfish ...

Didn't bother to follow the PV, and I must admit that White sure seems better than Black in this position. I wonder what Komodo thinks of this.
OK, when you get freer tomorrow, Louis, and, if SF does not mind, we might play a bit of this. I was doubting, but if John supports this...

Following your very deep search PV, I agree with Bd2, but after black's Rab8 deviate with Be2 instead of Qf4.

Take your time, Louis, whenever you are able to reply, tomorrow or otherwise, I do not mind.

Electricity is off temporarily at my office, so my computer is unavailable for several more hours. Perhaps I can help later. Or someone else can assist in my place.

From the original position, we have

17. Bd2 Rab8 18. Be2 Bc6

Your move here:

After half an hour Rodent shows +0.04 for White. It tries to prepare e3-e4 and expects Black to play Bc6 and Qb7 to discourage it. If I take White, I outplay it. Outplaying Rybka 2.2 is also doable, but takes much longer despite having more practice with the position.

I have also played a couple of blitz games against Stockfish. Initially I tried to force my knight manoeuver, but it is no good in the original form - Black is poised to play ...Bxa3 if white rook has no access to b1 square. In one game I managed to crash through at the cost of a rook, but it was enough only for a paepetual. Basically I tried to attack with an "h" pawn, and Shockfish placed Q on d8 and B on e7, aiming at x. h4 h5 y. gxh6 e.p Bxh4.

Did you intend to sacrifice your e3-pawn?

That is a positional sacrifice SF does not understand, and only winning move, btw. :)

How did you manage to squander such a wonderful position against SF, Pawel? :D
