I do this all the time and I don't even have a family!
Obviously.
Sinterklaas is tremendous fun, and kids grow out of it soon enough. Rest assured that missing a chess tournament in favour of Sinterklaas is entirely my own choice.
Registration for the upcoming Leiden tournament is closed. Participants will be contacted by the TD for any missing subscription details, and of course the similarity test. The news is that we will play the games on DGT boards, so they can be followed live! Please keep an eye on csvn.nl where no doubt a link will be posted when it is all setup. Time control is 60 minutes/game.

Internet warm-up Nov/8-9 on HGM's server (registration until the tournament):
Next weekend is the Internet warm-up tournament on winboard.nl, port 5000. Time control is 45 minutes/game. Registration is open until right before the start. Please send HGM a message if you need an account. I will keep a version of Rookie online so you can test playing games.
Schedule:
The times are HGM server time == Amsterdam time == UTC+1.
It seems that some people have difficulty connecting to port 5000. I believe FICS for this reason is also available at another port (23?). Shall I move the ICS to another port as well? (I don't believe the public ICS software supports multiple ports. When I was still running it from home, I could have my router map multiple ports on the internal port 5000, but now that I am running from a VPS this is no longer possible.)

EXT=eth0
PIN=23
HOUT=127.0.01
POUT=5000
/sbin/iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -i $EXT -p tcp --dport $PIN -j DNAT --to $HOUT:$POUT
/sbin/iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -d $HOUT --dport $POUT -j ACCEPT
this redirects all traffic comming in through eth0 for port 23 to port 5000 on 127.0.0.1 (assuming that the software is also listening on 127.0.0.1)
