I have 3-4-5-men complete, checked and working fine
Then decided to download some 6-men like KRPKRP and KPPKPP
These files work just fine when checked with a position.
Then I ran into some problems with KRPPKR and KQPPQR
Files named like kqpkpp.2.nbw.emd etc - looks okey and should be complete
but my question is:
Do these 6-men need some other 6-men installed in order to work - or what
am I doing wrong here?
Thanks!

Re: Nalimov
Your post does not make it clear as to whether you have the krppkr files or not. They are NOT the same as krpkrp and such. The files with .2, .3 and so forth simply sum up to > 2 gigabytes, and were split since 32 bit systems can't address files beyond 2 gigabytes with libraries that existed when the files were released...Kyodai wrote:I have 3-4-5-men complete, checked and working fine

a couple of positions - they clearly didn't function as they should. Hence
my question if these 6-men need some other 6-men to work properly.

K R P P K R - 4,35 GB en 7 archivos
 K Q P P K R - 3,72 GB en 7 archivos (I guess not KQPPQR)
And files md5sum, Check the sum.

Re: Nalimov
All they need is the complete set for kqppqr.n.nbx.emd files. If one is missing, I would expect it to report an error since the consistency check should fail, but I am not certain this will happen...Kyodai wrote:Yes I downloaded KRPPKR and KQPPQR complete - but when trying outbob wrote:Your post does not make it clear as to whether you have the krppkr files or not. You might try running Crafty, setting up the position, and typing "egtb" to see if it recognizes the position and shows the winning/losing/drawing PV correctly or not, or if it reports an error on startup...

Not exactly on topic, but after we talked I happened up on an article- wasn't looking for it but stumbled upon it- the guy seemed fairly smart. He said that 6 man and more were way too much of a slowdown to ever consider- 3 and 4 man were no better than nothing at all. Which left the 4 and 5 man- which he says he still uses but actually feels he would do better if he quit using them also. I guess his main point was if you were bound and determined to use them- 4 and 5 man would be all that was worth fooling with. Just thought I would mention it to you as it was an interesting read. I got the feeling he wasn't on your level, but knowledgeable nevertheless.
All the best to you,
george

Re: Nalimov
Thanks for all feed-back!
There were some errors in my previous posting - so I will try to correct things:
1) I have all Nalimov 3-4-5-men complete, checked and working
2) Downloaded a few 6-men like KRPKRP and KPPKPP - checked with a
couple of positions and they worked
3) Downloaded KRPPKR (7 files) and KQPPKQ (13 files) - checked with a
couple of positions but they didn't work.
4) Downloaded KQRPKR (17 files) and KQPKPP (13 files)
5) Rechecked some positions like in 3) - but none worked
Today I checked all those 6-men files with MD5summer - and they were
all fine.
Then checked some positions like in 3) - means KRPPKR and KQPPKQ
and voilà - they suddenly worked as they should..
Reboot and some sleep sometimes create miracles...

Re: Nalimov
Do you have the most recent egtb.cpp code? There are several versions out, and not all of 'em will connect to the 6 piece files. The one in the Crafty source is known to work with the 6 piece files, it is the last one Eugene released.Kyodai wrote:Thanks for all feed-back!

Oh holy Je... Didn't know things would be this complicated... Anyways - as I wrote - these 6-men-files now work as they should - after reboot. Thanks!
