ChessGUI 0.241 available (MUST READ)

ChessGUI 0.241 available (MUST READ)

The internal structure of ChessGUI 0.241 is quite different from previous versions, so an update to ChessGUI 0.241 needs to be cautious.

1) Save a backup copy of your current ChessGUI.exe.
2) Save a backup copy of your current ChsGUI_Eng.TXT.
3) Update your ChessGUI.exe to version 0.241
4) Launch ChessGUI and go to engine installation window, tab "Chess Variants". Click on "Update engine configs" once and never again. That updates your ChsGUI_Eng.TXT. This button will not be in future versions of ChessGUI.
5) Test the new ChessGUI and give feed feedback.

If any colours look weird, change them.

People with many installed Chess960 engines (Ray, Alexander, ...) should indicate here that they have read this message. They would reconfigure engines manually if they miss step (4) above.

BTW, there is a new feature "Chess960 (FRC)" for configuring Chess960 engines.

Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

Thanks Matthias!

I did it like you described and it looks like all kind of FRC engines still work. I started a 10s Swiss tournament with all my engines, if you don't get a message all is fine :)

It is a safety measure, in case 0.241 should be unstable.

Thanks for your work, Matthias.

Is ChessGUI 0.241 a departure from 0.240k, or a mere upgrade?

Thanks for clarifying.

Best Regards,
CL

It is a departure from 0.240k and anything earlier.

Hi Matthias,

I use 0.229 for all my Chess960 games. Totally reliable. I'll never upgrade those installations. If it ain't broke, don't fix it....

I'll try the latest version though as a new install. Once I am happy with that, I can always start afresh with new installations and install everything from scratch. Safer that way. But I'll be in no hurry to do it, if I do it at all, because 0.229 works just fine.

Hi Ray,

till more engines pop up that use only the "new approach", 0.229 is fine for Chess960 alone, indeed.
