The cubieboard ARM box

Post by sje »

The cubieboard is a small single board computer with a 1 GHz ARM cortex-A8 processor and 1 GB RAM. To be offered for US$49 (US$14 more than the less powerful Raspberry Pi), it may be the best inexpensive chess platform yet.

Hi, inexpensive yes, but at 1Ghz and 1GB RAM this board would be playing at GM level, so 99.99% of humans could not beat it. This being the case, it is unlikely to have any commercial success for electronic/computer chess.

The upcoming Revelation II is much weaker and will beat most GMs, so again, who will pay $3,000 for one?

Cordially,

Sean

But maybe bitboarders should wait

Post by sje »

But maybe bitboard coders should wait, as the CPU is only 32 bit. It takes ARMv8 or better compliance for general 64 bit operation.
