I actually feel sad to see that Chess Tiger is now a free app. Has Mr. Theron give up hope? It is a very nice program, no question about it. But what will be the driving force for him to make the program better? I am a happy customer, just glad that I paid for it before.

As I am on holiday I'll need to find a hotspot to update it... *sob*
I hope he updates the existing ChessPro that I purchased.

As this new free app doesn't seem to support variations when going through a game. (one of the things I love about ChessPro.)

This new app does look great!

Regards,
I think it is not really a free version: He describes the credit system (see screenshot 2) and underlines "In a few weeks you will also be able to either purchase credits for a very low price or to permanently unlock the game."
As it is now an universal app I think at this time he will merge the different versions chess pro, chess light und chess to one app and may be that means for pro-users that they get it as a free update. But this is only my expectation.

Funnily enough, Christophe Théron's Chess PRO has just been updated today! :D
According to the update's notes it is now in retina resolution for all devices and is a universal app (thanks for that Christophe!!!)

I just got the update!

The best app just got better! Looks great, the variation mode is still there.

This is the iPad chess app I use the most and it just got better!

I know a lot of people like tChess and it is a good app but the fact that ChessPro allows variations when going thru a game makes it the most useful for me.

Thanks Christophe indeed!

It is the same in both versions but may be variations was not switched on in the options menu at your new "Schach" (free) installation (german: Optionen => Erlaube Untervarianten) whereas it was already switched on at your previous ChessPro installation (and was taked over by the update)?

Chess Deluxe! By UAB Target Works (universal, Free)
This is an ok application which originality lies in the engine it uses: Amy Chess! :)

Their description:
Chess Deluxe!! - professional, luxury design chess game that you can play with your friends or against challenging computer opponent.

Features:
* Exclusive user interface and great sound effects
* Single player and two players game - play with your friends or against artificial intelligence engine
* 8 levels of difficulty
* Unlimited move undo function that allows you multiple retries and workout of your game standing
* Special moves like promotion, castling, en passant are included and not forgotten
* Automatic save when you exit game or receive a phone call
* iPhone, iPad and iPod touch support
* Portrait and also landscape mode for your convenience
* No Ads

The game uses modified version of exclusive Amy Chess Engine originally developed by Thorsten Greiner.

My opinion:
Simple but pleasant. Nice to see Amy Chess in the App Store. Nothing so incredible about the "great sound effects", except if beeps excite you. Paid by adds, but there's a way to get a version without adds (not tested).

Julien, you said it's free but why it's listed as paid?

Huh? My version was free and paid by adverts. But I'm on the French App Store, maybe my link is leading to a paid version only on your local App Store?

Edit: or maybe they have two apps: Chess!! And Chess Deluxe!! ? One being free and the other one paid? Only the first one is on my App Store and is called "Échecs!!".

I don't know why, it's listed as paid here and there's only a single version. You might have downloaded before they changed their price from free to paid.
