An Update of the Addendum to the LittleCompendium

Post by Lyudmil Tsvetkov »

Hi,
Here is a small update of the recently released Addendum of the
LittleChessEvaluationCompendium: http://www.winboardengines.de/doc/addendumlcec_2012.pdf

For clarity's sake, new things are below the asterisks on page 7.

What is new, mainly things that were still missing from my view:
-grading of pawns and pieces; graded values for ps in relation to the overall piece strength (game stage) and graded values for pieces in relation to the number of ps on the board (types of closed and open positions)
- finally a more or less decent definition for the shelter zone (just for myself)
-much more on backward ps; 5 or 6 new types of backward ps, at least to me; it seems I am obsessed with backwardness
a definition for a not definitively partially semi-backward pawn:); and also a bit on backward backwardness (this last thing was a joke)
- more on blocking
- a bit more on double and isolated ps
- a bit more on fixed structures
- some things from here and there

So, basically, almost entirely positional factors and pawn structure.
Boring stuff. (but for this Marco is to blame, who suggested that pawns were more important than pieces)

You can also choose to download the Compendium in full (edition 2012, a bit revised and completed, and finally with pages inserted): http://www.winboardengines.de/doc/Littl ... endium.pdf
Many special thanks again to Thomas Mayer for uploading the files and still hosting them!

PS. I would be happy if some of the moderators (maybe Julien) could move this thread also to the programmers section, if necessary.

Kind backward regards,
Ludmil
