Thinker is blowing my mind

Outperforming stockfish.
Possibly could beat Rybka.
All in a program the size of a grain of sand.

I do have two wishes:
1. A cotton-picking, gravy-licking pv
2. For Lance and {someone else is working on it now whose name escapes me} to write a book on how to write a chess program.

???

Lance designs engines such that they have no pv.
He calls that "elegance".
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

I agree, it's quite useless archive-wise not to be able to see eval/depth/PVs etc.

But the way it plays is really interesting.

Best,
Martin

The name that had escaped me was Kerwin Medina.

If we know how to write engines that are as strong as thinker then I guess that adding pv is going to be an easy job.

Thinker has played 4 bottom engines and not won any better one actually. Even more stunning is single Rick48!

Glad to see a new version of my favorite engine making great new strides. It would even be more mind blowing if Thinker is still playing with its unique and remarkable playing style

The developmental version of Thinker plays on FICS under the Thinker(C) handle. Considering the hardware it runs on, the engine appears to be in line with or better than the Rybka's. I wouldn't be surprised to see Thinker in the top three at the end of the WBEC, but I agree its too early to call.

Just to keep things in perspective, feel free to try to explain to me how one actually develops a chess engine that does _not_ display the PV or score? How does one test and debug such an engine?

food for thought, for those that actually have inquiring minds, rather than being mindless followers...

There is logical, and there is irrational, one chooses their camp.
