TCEC TOURNAMENT 4

http://www.tcec-chess.org/live.php

STARTS OCTOBER 18th / 19th / 20th (Not 100% decided yet)

For chat please visit http://chessbomb.com/
Note: Don't pay too much attention to their built-in computer analysis since it's running multi pv which slows it down considerably.

Misc:
CPU: Intel Core i7 980x @ 4214 MHz
Tournament length: 30 games - double round robin
Openings: Randomly selected - each engine pair will play both black & white of the same opening.

For news and updates check the News page regularly.

Participants:
Rybka 4 64-bit 6CPU
Ivanhoe B52aF 64-bit 6CPU
Naum 4.2 64-bit 6CPU
Zappa Mexico II 64-bit 6CPU
Sjeng 2008 64-bit 6CPU
Jonny 4.0 32-bit 6CPU

Time Control:
120 Minutes for the first 40 moves - 60 minutes for the next 20 moves then
15 minutes for the rest + 30 seconds added per move from move 61

Graphical User Interface:
Type: ChessGUI
Resign: +/- 5.50 eval for 3 moves in a row (both engines)
Draw: An eval of +0.05/-0.05 for 4 moves in a row (both engines - only possible after passing move 40) - if there is a pawn advance, or a capture by any kind, this draw counter will reset.
Ponder: Off
Hash: ~2 GB
Nalimov tablebases: "3 4 5 Men"
Robbobases: "3 4 5 Z Men"

Info:
As some of you may know, a new CPU is now used in the TCEC computer.
The previous one, the quad-core Intel Core i7 920 @ 4050 MHz has been retired in favor of the hexa-core Intel Core i7 980x @ 4214 MHz.
A screenshot with some benchmarks will be added to the Info page soon.

As for the engine selection, well - many of you has asked for Ivanhoe and now here it is.
Jonny is fresh off the shelf - will probably end last here but it might surprise us with some nice play.
Zappa is back with its great SMP scaling - lets see how it fares with 6 cores.
Rybka and Naum are back while Sjeng gets its debute in TCEC.

All these engines have been properly tested with 6 cores.

The final overclocking stabilization tests are currently running on the TCEC computer so the tournament will start when these are finished.
Could take 1 day, but could also take a few more days depending on how it goes. That's why I can't give a 100% certain start date - yet.

Large Pages has now successfully been configured.

All engines benefiting from this will be able to use it in the upcoming TCEC events (this one included).

Hi Martin,

I think IvanHoe from "Peterpan" B52aF (I tested B52aC) is playing more aggressive. IvanHoe from "Ahmed" (T0.4) is the strongest and IvanHoe 52iUSTMO from "Vlad" have the best time management with ponder = on after all what I saw.

All three versions are running without any problems. But I think the version of Ahmed have a little advantage in using the Robbobases / Triplebases.

With 6 ipp family engines (Houdini 1.03a, Fire 1.31 and Firebird 1.1 Dr Deab I) I have now 920 games for each engine (40 minute games, 40 in 10 without resign and ponder = off).

Perhaps helpfull information for yourself.

Possible that the version B52aF is stronger as version B52aC but sure is, that the most fun in watching games ... you will have with the version by Peterpan, means with the version you tested so far.

After my "subjektiv" impressions after so many days in testing with all the 6 versions.

And thanks for the interesting work you do for us.

Best
Frank

Frank,

Thanks for your information. As there are so many, many Ivanhoe versions out there I simply had to pick one.

Best Regards,
Martin

While successfully configuring Large Pages for infinite analysis, there's not enough RAM to use it while two engines are playing against each other. So Large Pages will be disabled until I upgrade the memory.

Hi Martin,

yes, that is the main problem (to many versions).

I think you have put the right engine.
Its possible that with more time (as I am using for SWCR) the engine will play stronger as the strongest IvanHoe T0.4 in my test.

But if you have time for it ... compare the B52aF with T0.4 or make own statistics from my games (Shredder comments are included).

Tomorrow I will add from all 6 IPP family engines the 920 games per Engine in my download area. At the moment 4 engines are in the download file, two of these are playing so far the latest games.

Have a nice day!

Correction:
Ponder = On

SWCR is a Ponder = On rating list.
Sorry for this mistake, I wrote ponder = off.
Have nothing to search in the thread by Martin but I have to make a correction in my message.

Sorry again!
