Post by rvida »

Critter 0.80 is available. Download link:

http://www.mediafire.com/?jkjpnzk5yg5p0e3

Changes:

* Chess960 support. FEN strings and castling moves are compatible with Shredder Classic (probably won't work in Arena)
* fixed display of elapsed time in Chess Assistant
* sending tbhits to GUI
* dont crash when MultiPV is set to value greater than number of leagal moves
* improvements in king safety and passed pawn handling
* more aggressive forward pruning
* better zugzwang detection
* tablebase related UCI options renamed to be compatible with ChessGUI

Hi,

a test match against 0.70 is still running. So far it is about +40 ELO, but the error margin is still high.

Even if I think that testing agains its precessors is suboptimal, 40 Elo is at least a nice number and would mean Critter 0.8 can pass Naum 4.2 in my list.

I will start testing tomorrow.

Thx again and bye

Very interesting, thanks Richard.

0.80 is now a candidate to play in my long TC matches.

Have you checked them out yet, Richard?

Well +40 it's a lot for an already top level engine. Congrats ! :-)

Critter has the most impressive progression so far: each new version is so much stronger then previous and this trend lasts from a very long release series. This is _very_ difficult to achieve.
