However, I'm not at all sure if (at game 2 move 53), black, with the 2 bishops, is winning anything. It's been going on for some moves now, and he is at a 2-pawn deficit.

(actually, on further examination, i'm wondering if 18...Rg8 was actually a regretable concession, and the mistakes were earlier).
The game score shows they were thinking after move 4.
Are the first few moves made in advance (with both having the same with both colours), and opening books switched off after that?

At this point, Game 3 move 34, does Houdini know what it is doing, or doesn't it?

There was some very strange play!

Something very brilliant, perhaps?

Yes, that was a disgusting show from Houdini! Rybka seems to have had the last word.
If Houdini didn't know what it was doing, then why did it do all that?

I don't think black can save the game. I'll come baxk later to see what's happening in game 4.

I guess the point here is that it thought it knew what it was doing. :)

Just to say thanks for putting such a match together and making it readily accessible.

Length, time control, processing power, engines all make this a heavyweight event.

I'll take a stab and say 26-22 to Rybka.

Very interesting match, Martin. Thanks!!

My forecast:

Very close to 50% each with no less than 80% draws.

Tom.
