Deep Shredder 12 Linux

Post by Kurt Utzinger »

Hi all
Is there anyone being able to copy the contents of the analysis window
- in the game notation
- in the clipboard / or text editor
Contrary to the Windows Shredder GUI I have not found a possibility to do this.
Kind regards
Kurt

Nobody seems
a) to work with Linux
b) to have installed Deep Shredder 12 Linux

Kurt,

I work with Linux constantly.

I do not own Shredder 12. Still waiting to hear about the smarter "dumbed down" play to decide if I will purchase it. So far, no one has mentioned this since the pre-release days.

Well, if you decide to use Linux, you have to accept that 98% of people don't use it (or whatever the exact percentage is).

If you want a nice smooth, happy life, I've found Windows very good indeed

Perhaps, not many linux users in this forum. I think deep shredder 12 linux was also purchased by a minority so far.

I downloaded the shredder classic 4 GUI demo version (which should be the same GUI as that with deep shredder 12) and was not able to copy the contents of the analysis window either.

I recommend more mature GUIs if you are using linux, e.g. the new Scid (which is really incredible and has a window layout closer to chessbase) scid.sourceforge.net , jose chess ( jose-chess.sourceforge.net) similar to Fritz. Running arena, shredder classic in wine is another option.

The 98% figure is perhaps true for desktops not for servers.

I can say the same about linux too (ie nice smooth and happy life). It boils down to preference and familiarity.

With Scid, Arena, wine (for windows only engines), and even Fritz/Chessbase with the latest wine working so well, the chess experience on windows and linux will probably be similar. Thus one can use the OS they are more familiar with for chess.

It's ok if you are happy with windows. I have changed to Linux Ubuntu and
do not intend to go back. Instead of ChessBase I use the great SCID
database. And analysis are executed either under SCID, Deep Shredder 12
Linux or Windows Shredder Classic GUI with wine. All this works fine.

It's a pity that there are so few people using Linux. In the meantime I
have even found a way (via Glipper) to copy the contents of the analysis
window under Deep Shredder 12 Linux:

You Linux users are not the only forgotten peple in the world!

Four years ago I switched from Win*grr* to Linux and my world was fine. Two years ago I switched to Mac and my world get's even better and more comfortable. But regarding chess software ... :(

Great find!

Trying again, I realized it is possible with the regular cut and paste as well. Select the line that you are interested in, in the analysis window, select it with the mouse (it will not be highlighed). Now you can paste it anywhere by doing the middle button click or by holding the left and right buttons. What is deceiving is that the text does NOT get highlighted giving the impression that it is not copied to the clipboard, but it is..

A good thing about using the Shredder Classic GUI for linux is that Stefan will be more motivated to fix such bugs and add more features.
