My condolences to his family.

As far as I can see, this was the last post by Martin, and it was in the thread for Theo van der Storm who passed away very early in the year. We may read his post a bit differently now, it is as though Martin wanted to say that, as long as you are remembered, you live on, and that is good.

I do not really want to read anything religious into it, but today also happens to be the last day of All Saints in the Catholic Church, so I think it is very fitting that Antonio posted his post just today. Thanks! Martin was from Tilburg in the south, so it could be he was a Catholic, I don't know for sure, it could be from what he posted!

I watched the news last night, people in Manilla had the fourth flooding in a year and even the graves they wanted to visit were under water. But they still succeeded in lighting a candle even if they had to do it in a boat!

Let's burn a candle today for those who are in Chess Heaven.

But physical death is a transition to another life. What is Theo doing there? Perhaps he started writing a superstrong chess engine with the assistance of the old masters? :)

Anyway Theo, I'm sure you are enjoying yourself, bon voyage!

So sad to hear that. It was a pleasure to meet Martin at several tournaments in Maastricht and Leiden some years ago.
Rest in peace Martin.
