Hello together,
the access to the online chess database URL http://www.chesslive.de is not available since (at least) Saturday of the previous week.
It does not matter if you select the English or German web page of the
company ChessBase. I tried it several times, but without success in each case.
Who of you made similar experiences ?
Regards,
Norbert

Re: ChessBase GmbH: online chess database
Hello Norbert,
The page says "Service Unavailable" so it seems Chessbase are aware of the problem.
Some alternatives I can think off:
♠ ChessBase Light has a built in demo database but it is much smaller and not recent games. It will give a much faster response though.
♠ Chesslab
http://www.chesslab.com/PositionSearch.html
used to have a similar online database as Chessbase and they claim it is up to date, but the site is for a large part filled with online casino adverts. The Java engine takes a long time to start up on my overloaded computer so maybe this will not work, I can't say.
♠ The search on New In Chess is even magnitudes slower I suspect so not recommended. I don't think they updated the software since Nicbase times.
♠ An up to date database of your own will be much faster. Scid or Chessbase Light are two of your options! Why not Scid 4.0, the new beta? You will have to get your own updates if you want the latest games, everything you need for that is available in the weekly updates from TWIC, where would chessplayers be without their The Week In Chess! I am planning on doing this one day, I have collected all those The Week In Chess files but never built a database from it.

What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow.
Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....

It's pretty sure, that they are, as i get the following in my browser:Eelco de Groot wrote:Hello Norbert,

"This database is not being updated anymore. The new ChessBase Online database can be accessed direct from ChessBase 10."
So they want you to buy CB10...

I think there is now a slightly better affordable - and some would say simply better - Chessbase Light alternative for CB 10, the 2009 edition? I just noticed it on the Chessbase site and had not seen it before, so I think it is new! 49.99 for Chessbase Light Premium, the demo now in a 2009 version, can't really be used for making a database but the upgrade is fully functional.Robert Weck wrote:It's pretty sure, that they are, as i get the following in my browser:Eelco de Groot wrote:Hello Norbert,
