Is there any chance to get bright 0.3a?

Post by Jouni »

It seems to be 40 points stronger than 0.2c. Allard Siemelink hasn't answered to PM or written to CCC in some weeks now.

So is it a private engine but can be obtained by asking for it by PM?

Hi,
On a core 2 duo machine after a 188 games at long time control using it's own opening book i got this result in my rating list:

Bright 0.2c MP 2712_113/188

I'll be more than glad to test the next Bright :D

Well, it depends. :)

Anyway, I guess I could release bright 0.3a as a public version if there is enough interest. Anybody?

When something is fun and free, of course people will be interested.

Of course there is plenty of interest Allard. :P
If you make 0.3a public, could you please also make 0.2b public?

From testing Bright 0.2c, I know it is a very interesting engine.

(that was from empty hash)

Best mini-match result was 4-2 against Naum 2.0, in that test (which was single cpu only).

It's strong, and also with mp capability and bitbases access (something to wish for would be multi-pv). I consider it among the most interesting freeware engines, or among all engines at all. CCRL is showing Bright on rank #4 of all free engines, or #3 if we include version 0.3a which they are testing already.

I'm sure any improved release will be widely appreciated. Thanks for this good engine.

Yes, Allard I would be interested. Bright had a very interesting style and was quite good in testsuites. Unfortunately I could never get it to work on my Quad 6600. I thought it was because of Vista however I've since installed XP pro x64 and it still gives a message "bright 0.2c has encountered a problem" in Arena. It works on my dual 6600 though. Perhaps its how it was compiled. I hope I have better luck with bright 0.3 since I like aggressive engines. Thanks again for your engine.

I second that! :D
It will be playing in edition 8.
