Post by CThinker »

ThinkerTalk is not exactly the best conversationalist, but it manages to surprise a few folks.

Somehow, this guy at ICC didn't realize that he was talking to a machine (logged this morning)...

Hi Lance,

please please please release a version of Thinker 5.1b that allows ponder to be turned off.

No pressure of course!

If you revisit the thinker download page now, you might find some 5.1c chocolates.

And some guy, just now, was trying to test it out after reading this post...

Code: Select all

I> claymore tells you: Hi, I just read a post on talkchess about ThinkerTalk, is that a feature of this handle?
I< tell claymore [ThinkerTalk] are we still on the subject of chess?
I> (told claymore)
I> claymore tells you: ah :)
I< tell claymore [ThinkerTalk] i wonder if anything interesting will happen today
I> (told claymore)
I> claymore tells you: if it didn't say [ThinkerTalk] at the beginning of every tell i'm sure you would fool even more people, hehe
I< tell claymore [ThinkerTalk] do you enjoy being sure i would fool even more people, hehe?

Lance, i loaded Thinker 5.1c, which now can have ponder OFF- and now we can test it- presumably. The problem is 4.7a shows depth, kns it is thinking and thinking lines. However, 5.1c, during and after its thinking and move- never shows a depth of more than 1, and never at all shows any kns thinking and never shows any thinking lines. A bit strange when 4.7a shows all the above. It could turn into a problem to test considering the above. I certainly wish it could be fixed.

Best,
Ómar

George,

I can add to that, that the newest version (5.1c) does some kind of pondering. You can see that by turning on the "arrow" option in Arena, there is still some strange pondering going on.
I hope that Lance find it in his heart to look in these matters because I find this engine very interesting. It´s very strong and the exe is surprisingly small

Thinker outputs all that info. I can see them both in ThinkerBoard and in ChessMaster.

Code: Select all

C:\Usr>"(Active) Thinker 64-bit.exe"
Thinker: 5.1C (NA 041, 5dc, for 64-bit architecture) Copyright (c) Lance Perkins

Lance, i dont know if the fact that you showed me 64 bit stats, and i am referring to 32 bit (Active) makes a diff. or not. All i can tell you is that the 32 bit version set to Active shows basically nothing, in chessbase during the game, nor in the game pgn. No depth- no kns- no lines. I dont use Arena, but in Chessbase as a UCI engine it shows you fixed the ponder problem. If you could just take care of these other issues.......

Here's for the 32-bit one:

Code: Select all

C:\Usr>"(Passive) Thinker 32-bit.exe"

quit
Depth 17, score of 63, 26.51 seconds, 27.83M nodes. ChessMaster and ThinkerBoard shows them.
