Congratulations to Tord and Glaurung!

Thanks to you and everybody else for the congratulations!

As always, the actual games give a more nuanced impression than the score table by itself: Glaurung's play was not always convincing, and it could easily have lost in at least two of the games. But some of the games were quite nice, and (more importantly) I had great fun and found several new friends.

I hope to post a detailed report from the OPCCC in a few days.

The spectators are (from left to right) Alex Morozov (Booot), Aleksandrs Saveljevs (Warrior), Marek Kolacz (Butcher) and Tomasz Michniewski (Tytan). The players are Igor Korshunov (WildCat, facing the camera) and Maciej Pestka (Matacz, facing away from the camera), in an interesting and hard-fought game from round 7, won by WildCat (who finished second in the tournament).

The deserted MacBook to the right of the two players does indeed belong to Glaurung.

Does anyone know the hardware that was used?

If I recall correctly: Diep played on a 2.4 GHz Core Duo, Matacz on a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo (but used only a single core, because the program does not yet have a parallel search), and Glaurung on a 2 GHz Core Duo. All the others used single-core systems, I think.

By the way, a small correction to the title: Glaurung is not the new Polish Champion; it won only in the open class. Matacz, the best Polish program in the tournament, is the new Polish Champion.
