I wonder if there is a tactical reason that Fritz did not play 22...fxe4

Hmmm .... Junior must have taken a peek at my private book. I guess I cannot use this line anymore. In this position

White plays Qg3! ... I have this move in my book and was hoping to use that sometime ... so much for that

I have analyzed this move some time back and find that actually taking the Knight is not possible due to Qg6! ... and now if black is careless and plays ... Rd8 Rf7 Qa1+? ... then Rd1 Qc3 ...

and now Rdf1!! is .... hehe ... well its curtains. Other moves such as Qc3 first don't get you mated quickly but leave white with a very big +.

I would be really interested to know if Junior managed this opening by itself or if was book preparation. I am inclined to guess it was book preparation ... which goes to show how important this is ... and how rich chess is. The deeper you go into a variation the more you discover the mysteries that are hidden deep deep inside.

Junior was out of book after Fritz' 20...Re8, and Fritz was out of book after it played 29...Nf6. According to the Chessbase article, the new move was Junior's 27.Bf4

I am surprised that the book was so long and it seems clear to me that the position after 29 moves is clearly better for white.

I am surprised that the fritz team did not evaluate the position correctly
but maybe it is typical for them to overevaluate pawns.

Based on my understanding white is clearly better here because white has better developement and pair of bishops.

My logical conclusion after capturing the rook at e8 is that white is simply better and the line is no good for black.


I tried many programs and it seems that out of my programs only Fritz8 and shredder9 believes that it is better for black
