Maybe we can use a patreon account to get money for our chess engine developments. Just like many artists do. New developments costing lots of money and time.

Maybe I should create Skipper buttons, stickers and T-shirts first to give to potential Skipper patreons.

Eight months ago I created a youtube video with a Skipper game. Result 0 views.

Don't whine! Just let skipper play. The more engines the more fun!

You aren't using neural networks. Are you.
Making the network learning only 3200 positions on my computer keeping me busy all day .

There were no new developments for old Skipper. Slipper version still playing only quasy random games.

No, I'm not using deep neural nets but I'm experimenting with some 2 layer integer networks, you can already do some nice things with that without losing too much speed.

Maybe you need a faster computer? Supervised learning 3200 positions taking a whole day seems a bit slowish.

I started with 500 positions today and increased it in steps. So that kept me busy. I also had to change training algorithm somewhat.
But probably I have not the right network architecture for I also think it learns too slow.

If you make (wrong) changes deep in the software and getting tough bugs this hobby is the worst work you can imagine. No fun at all. (hobby from hell)

Also you forget after some time how backpropagation and these weight updates (chain rule etc) in conv net are working.

If I create a video about how I do my daily make up I probably would get thousands of views.

I know, even without NN this hobby can be very frustrating, sometimes you can look for a simple bug for days without finding it, and when you finally find the bug and repair it your engine only starts to play weaker.

I've been programming chess engines from 1977 till now, sometimes skipping a few years, from 2001 to 2010 I paused for 9 years, and after 2013 I didn't do much, let's say that Alpha Zero more or less renewed my interest.

In the past (besides the basic A-B algorithm) you had to invent most things yourself, nowadays everyone seems to grab most things from Stockfish and other strong open source engines, which makes it a lot easier to produce a strong engine in a short period of time.
