You said pruning moves causes your engine to crash. That is inconsistent with it being written well. A proper search would allow pruning of any move without problems.

There is no inconsistency, only forgetfulness. xx years ago I created a data structure optimized for speed. It came with a rule and as long as the rule was kept it runs perfectly. Then xx years later I made some changes here and there and I broke with that rule of xx years ago and thus created a bug. That doesn't mean that something is horrebly wrong with the design as you put it. That's insane, or as I put it from the start, your lack of imagination. A bug is a bug and can do horrible things.
