Someone reported in CTF that Steven Edwards was found dead in his home about 3 weeks ago or so. Is this confirmed as true?
I've known him since the 70's...

Re: Steven Edwards question
Sadly I believe it is.
I was linked to him on Facebook. Someone, local to him, wrote on his Facebook wall that he was found deceased in his home.
Here's a link to the funeral home announcement:

It looks as if he passed on Oct 1st 2016

Re: Steven Edwards question
Not as far as I know.
He was working on it--he had more than half done...
I recall he posted about what to do when he was gone--I think he wanted other people to take over his project.

Re: Steven Edwards question
I'm very sad to hear this. I'm not nearly as active as I used to be but I have fond memories of conversing with Steven in some of the early CCT events. I looked up to him for his many contributions to computer chess and followed the development of Symbolic with great interest.
Rest in peace Steven.

Re: Steven Edwards question
Sad news!
First time I have heard about his name via... Crafty which has been using his endgame tablebase! My first (and only one) to him was about asking permission to use that tablebase.
CPW has updated already about him:
