Problem with an epd string

Post by vb4 »

Can someone tell me what is wrong with the following epd string? Stcokfish handles it with no problems but Crafty bombs on it after about 14 plies?? Here is the position:

1B1kBKn1/3p4/3NPp2/8/1P1N4/r7/q5r1/7b w - -

Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me.

Thanks,

Les

Hi Bob how are you?

I was running a set of epd's and when it hit that position it stopped any further analyses of the rest of the epd records. I am on the road today but when I get home late tomorrow night I will run the 10 positions and show you what happens. Perhaps I am using an earlier version of crafty but will let you know tomorrow night. I have been running crafty for years as you know and have always thought alot of your work and dedication.

See you tomorrow and thx,

Les

:-) I immediately had to think of the good old Atari ST where "bombs" appeared on the screen if a program crashed, or even the operating system (TOS) ...

Hi Bob,

I am running a quad intel chip in a Windows XP OS.

The crafty version I have been using is crafty-23.1.exe

These were the 7 epd records I placed in a file to run at 30 sec each along with the epd.out file that was generated. What happens is crafty goes through the analysis of the first 3 records and then it hits the 4th record and around ply 15 it just stops and never continues to analyze the last 3 records.

epd.epd file

Re: Problem with an epd string

Post by sje »

The problem is with the fifth EPD record:
[d]1b1knR1r/2pR3r/2b5/7K/4QBp1/1p1p3B/pn5p/7q w - - 0 1[\d]
The above is not a legal position.
