FCP Tourney-2021 in preparation ... different questions!

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

in around 40 days the FCP Toruney-2020 will be over.
41.000 games on 5.3Ghz Intel i9-10900 with Fischer time control played!

Since months I try to hold my link selection (engines links) up-to-date.
http://www.amateurschach.de/main/_comparable.htm

The question is which programs should be participant:
I have no interest on LCO (engines without a name of a programmer are for me not interesting) but on all the others I have interest.

41 places, and the same conditions!

Koivisto seems to be interesting after all I read.
Interesting can be to start with Stockfish 12 NNUE and Stockfish 12 without NNUE.
From the group of older engines Hakkapelitta can be interesting (strong in king attacks).

Maybe engine authors have wishes for the tournament.

Fact is:
I will play the next tournament without:
- Equinox
- Houdini
- Fire
- different others I will select out from the group of FCP Tourney-2020 engines.

Playing style and Elo is quit clear, enough games played.

Not sure with the style of the current Rodent version.
Texel and Andscacs can play with the latest available test-version.

Marvin can play, Amoeba, Topple and FabChess are interesting.
Newer NNUE engines will be get a chance (Igel, Minic, Nemorino for an example).

40 days time for the organization!

For me it's interesting to collect the opinions by others to the list of particianpant engines or to added wishes of programmers. But the group of engines should be interesting. To added a engine with 2.700 or 2.800 Elo made no sense. I think the conditions I am using for FCP Tourney-2020 are fully OK.

Best
Frank

Again, no interest on:

- LCO
- private versions of engines
- private versions of available engines (all what I added should be available for all, commercial or free).
- Stockfish clones or derivate engines.

Of course:
John Stanback can start with a development version of Wasp.

I forgot:
Unclear is ...
Ethereal with or without NNUE?!

A NNUE version is available on RWBC site (good work from Günther Simon).

In the maintime Klaus Wlotzka is working on the excel files with statistics.
We have many ideas for new stats but to make the Excel file stronger need time.

Sorry, wrong link in the first message:

Link selection of engines:
http://www.amateurschach.de/main/_engines.htm

Participant engines will be added from time to time (if an engine missed).

List of participant engines for FCP Tourney-2021:
41 places!

01. Andscacs 0.95.123 x64 can be test now, this engine should never missed for such a long time tourney.
02. Arasan (current version).
03. Booot (current version), at the moment 6.4 ... my second favorite engines after Wasp. Fantastic statistics, I like Booot so much!!
04. Chiron (current version) ... maybe the programmer released the WM version 2018 or a newer version?
05. Defenchess (current version).
06. Demolito (current version).
07. Ethereal (current version, with or without NNUE is unlcear).
08. Fizbo 2.0 BMI2 x64 (fantastic speculative attacking style, should be never missed for such a tourney).
09. Fritz 17 (Gingko). Interesting is the question what for a program will be included in Fritz 18?! But for sure a Gingko will be start.
10. GullChess 3.0 BMI2 x64 (important for set tournament Elo, GullChess with 3.035).
11. Hakkapelitta 3.0 (I will see the older version in the tournament).
12. Igel (current version with NNUE).
13. Komodo (current version).
14. Laser 1.7 BMI2 x64 or a newer version if available.
15. Minic (current version with NNUE).
16. Nemorino 6.0 with NNUE.
17. Pedone 2.1 or a newer version, programmer is working on NNUE.
18. Rodent (current version, unclear is the playing style ... need help here).
19. Rubichess (current version, programmer is working on NNUE).
20. Schooner 2.2 SSE x64 or a newer version. Here I hope of a new versions after the 203 move crashes I produced with FCP Tourney-2020.
21. Shredder 13 (I am quit sure that Stefan is working all the time on Shredder, maybe a christmas gift will be available).
22. SlowChess (current version).
23. Stockfish 12 NNUE.
24. Stockfish 12 without NNUE (made no sense to added a dev. version because the tournament is running over 5 months, the number 1 can start two times, will see the differents).
25. Texel 1.08 a13 can be test now.
26. Vajolet2 (current version).

27. Wasp (current version). John is working since month on Wasp, sure he send a test-version. Two different Wasp versions (Wasp experimental) is possible if John like it to see that. Should be clear, Event is running on Wasp site with Wasp flag. Go Wasp go ... and John is the chef, or better Wasp is my favorite engine.

28. Winter (current version).
29. Xiphos (current version).
30. iCE (current version).
31. rofChade (current version).

New will be:
32. Marvin (current version, I hope of an bugfix for longer Fischer time controls).
33. Koivisto (never tested).

Unclear:
- Combusken, king safty should be improved, have a look in FCP Toruney-2020.
- Monolith
- Topple (never tested).
- FabChess (never tested).
- Gödel (long time not tested).
- Deuterium (maybe Ferdinand released a newer version).
- Smarthink (only a newer version will be start).
- Senpai (only a newer version will be start).

Older not participant versions will be (I saw enough games and for different other reasons).

- Fire 7.1 ... I saw enough games.
- Houdini 6.03 ... have maybe to many from Stockfish, not the topic here.
- Equinox 3.30 ... Rybka with endgame improvements.
- Protector 1.90, to old
- Hannibal 1.7, very passive style
- Nirvanachess 2.3, very passive style
- Critter 1.6a, to old, I saw enough games, place can be better use!
- Fritz 16 (Rybka), very passive style with big trouble's in king safty

Wishes by users / programmers (settings for an example) are possible, see my message I wrote before!

Hi Frank,

It might be good to have a different mix of styles, imho. Maybe you'd like to see the passive and bad king safety engines get punished by the better players in your tournament, producing excellent games for the winning side. That's only possible if you do include those lesser engines. :)

Good luck with your tournament!

Hi Carldaman,

that's right (Nirvana, Hannibal).
But from all the Rybka mistakes with many pieces on board I have really enough.

Combusken is interesting for the late middlegame.
Here the style is nice and with a lot of own ideas.
But with many pieces on board to many fast lost games.
Here I have to check version 1.3.1 ... at the moment Cumbusken plays test-games on my Notebook vs. strong attacker, like Hakkapelitta, Andscacs, Wasp and Fizbo.

All in all ... you are right.
Without such engines lesser short and interesting won games by the others.

On the other hand:
I saw enough games from the older programs and will give more places for newer engines, like Topple or FabChess for two examples. Tucano is also an option, I forgot to write. I am looking all the time on CEGT ratings for find out the information. I don't know the style of Topple, FabChess and Tucano so an interesting part for such a long time tournament.

Hi there,

Yesterday I created the detail page:
https://www.amateurschach.de/main/_fcp-tourney-2021.htm

List of participant engines can be found here.

I think it's better to start January 01st, 2021.
Normaly in December are many engine updates available.
Furthermore, I have a little bit time for the configuration.

- Stockfish will be start one time only, not a good idea to added two Stockish engines.
- 8 new engines will be start

The 8 new engines I will test start of December 2020 in a small tourney.
So I can check that.

It'd be a pleasure to see Koivisto play :) Sadly I can't claim it has an interesting style of play tho, it's mostly a strong searcher atm imo. We have a couple ideas in mind tho that should make it a better attacker/positional player in general :)

Hi,

some people wrote me that Koivisto is more as interesting.
Honestly, I checked version 3.0 as first version.
For two days I played 4 games, unfortunately I lost with my maximal 2100 Elo all of the games.
OK, in one game I am in the near of draw.

41 engines participate and all the strong engines are in the group.
All the 8 new engines will get some problems vs. best available chess programs, quit clear!

The reason that I added Naum, Hiarcs, Hakkapeliitta from the group of older programs.
Later, after the tourney, the tournament table can be split in two groups.
Easy, because each one vs. each one 50 games.

Means, that we can after the tourney produce a first and second league with all the games and 41 participate engines.

Start of December I will play a short test-tourney (only 12 programs, the 8 new engines and 4 others).
I hope that all 8 new engines (new for me, so I wrote new engines) works fine under Shredder GUI.

Thanks for Koivisto ...
Hakkapeliitta from Finland became an opponent fighter.

:-)

Best
Frank

PS:
For the moment unclear which new programs will be available in the next 2 months.
Possible that I must delete Naum or Hiarcs for newer more interesting programs.
