Fascinating Game (Knight En Prise for a long time)

Post by Eraserheads »

It's been ages since I posted here, but I occasionally check new posts and I've recently tried to accustom myself with the latest and the greatest in the computer chess kingdom. I've got myself an Ipad and I was blown away at how portable gadgets like these can play extremely good chess. My current setup nowadays just kicks my rig 10 years ago, and while before I was satisfied at seeing 500kn/s - 1k/s, nowadays even my former number crunching king Little Goliath gets kicked badly with typical speeds such as 4k/s on a single core (my rig now uses a 6-core processor).

I've installed the latest Stockfish for Ipad and pit it against my old stable from the mid 2000s (ruffian, Chess tiger, Junior, Hiarcs etc). Incredible result for my Ipad warrior, as it beat all the old warriors convincingly without losing a single game. ( I manually entered the moves ) My oh my times have changed and tech has improved dramatically. I gradually toughened the roster using more modern engines like Critter 1.6a, Shredder 13 etc and the Ipad either beat them or drew, still no losses. Truly this is a GM in my pocket! (coat pocket to be exact)

Now here is the only game it lost. I always manually enter their moves so I can enjoy the games as it happens. Here is an interesting game wherein Stockfish had its knight on g4 for a good several moves before finally sacrificing it on f2. It is quite a thriller, as taking the knight anytime would have resulted in a strong Kingside attack for Black.

The moves are as follows:

And with a deeper analyze, SF thinks 23...Nxf2 is a mistake and it wants to let the knight en prise for some more moves
