Re: MVL vs. Komodo handicap match
game 3 rapid match mistakes
[d]rnb1kb1r/pppp1pp1/5q1p/4p3/2P5/2NP4/PP2P2P/R2QKBNR b KQkq - 1 5
MVL was 3.5 pawns up by 5...Bb4 but chose 5...e4
[d]rnb1k2r/pppp1pp1/7p/8/1bP1p2q/2NP4/PP1QP1BP/R2K2NR b kq - 5 8
MVL was still 3 pawns up by 8..exd3 but chose 8...f5
[d]r4rk1/pbpp2p1/1p5p/2n5/2P1P3/2N1KN2/PP5P/5R1R b - - 2 17
MVL played with the wrong rook.
correct move is 17...Rfe8
MVL played 17...Rae8 that is the more natural move.
I do not know why 17...Rfe8 is better and it seems more logical for humans to enter the rook that did not move to the game but I believe stockfish.
Later it is not clear if black had a win.
last position that I am not sure and I think black cannot win is the following
[d]8/2N1r3/3p2k1/5b2/1P1K4/P5p1/8/2R5 b - - 2 42
I am sure that 42...g2 is a draw
42...Kg5 is better but I guess 43.b5 Re2 44.b6 Rb2 45.Nd5 Rd2+ 46.Kc4 Be4 47.b7 Rb2 48.Kd4 Bf3 49.Rc8 is enough to draw.

Yes, each account is for one person. Do you see something odd?

Thanks for the download link.
I'm quite surprised that MVL was able to hold the 'uncrippled' Komodo at non-handicap 5+5 blitz. Komodo actually lost on time, but the game was dead drawn positionally.
Perhaps such matches (Komodo vs top GM, without material odds or positional handicaps) would NOT be so one-sided after all !? I would find that to be far more interesting that the current handicap matches.

Re: MVL vs. Komodo handicap match
I'm only an NM and I play queen odds at 1 minute with no increment against SF/K/H for a good game (I lose most games at 30 seconds and generally win at 2 minutes or with any sort of increment). A queen is really a lot, especially if you've practiced playing queen odds a bit (it gets easier with practice).JJJ wrote: ↑Fri Sep 07, 2018 1:13 am I agree. How do you feel about this match Larry ? Will you propose again the handicap Komodo lost ? Or will you try a new one ?
I m still interested to see a GM against Komodo at 1 + 1 against a big handicap. Maybe Komodo would even win at queen handicap at bullet ? Could be extra match.
With all my respect,
Jean-Baptiste.

Re: MVL vs. Komodo handicap match
Well, it was not really "uncrippled" Komodo. It was crippled in many ways: 1. Single thread only 2. no ponder 3. no tablebases 4. Black pieces 5. variety opening book 6. several months old version. The time forfeit was due to chess.com leaving the Overhead ms at the old default of 30 ms, which is intended for play on a single machine. I had told them to set it to 75 or 100 for internet play due to lag, but it didn't get done. Also, according to MVL, the final position, while probably drawn, was not a trivial draw, and he said that he might well have lost it if Komodo hadn't forfeited. Still, it does suggest that a special book is needed to avoid draws as Black, if that is the goal.carldaman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 5:37 am Thanks for the download link.
