Out of all those, the only one that seems able to score wins against the top 2, is H5. I find little excitement in engines that give different move choices and end up drawing their games, at best.mehmet karaman wrote:I think we will see strong chess engines like Stockfish 8, Komodo 10.2, Houdini 5, Shredder (13/Nova), Fire 5, Deep Fritz 16 , Hiarcs 15, Crafty 25.1 etc. within the next 2 months. Yes exactly. Hiarcs 15 will be weak. Shredder looks okay; Fire 5 is boring to watch at TCEC. Fritz 16 might be decent. And crafty - no thank you. The only real special release to look forward to is Houdini 5. It's difficult to care about commercial engines these days since they are all regression in Elo when compared to Stockfish.Ozymandias wrote:Out of all those, the only one that seems able to score wins against the top 2, is H5. I don't think Hiarcs 15 is weak.
Hiarcs 14 has an elo grade of 3064 (CCRL 40/40) and I think Hiarcs 15 elo has +100 more elo higher than Hiarcs 14

Hiarcs 14 has an elo grade of 3064 (CCRL 40/40)
CCRL has no games of Hiarcs 14 vs non-obsolete engines
H14 was -200...250 elo below Houdini 3 and Komodo 5, 100 elo below SF-3

Notice that you're quoting a 7 month old post, no new info in the meantime. That doesn't inspire much confidence.mehmet karaman wrote:Marck Uniacke said,

According to SSDF rating list (40/120) Hiarcs 14 was 52 elo below Komodo 5. 1 and 16 elo below Stockfish 3.yurikvelo wrote:http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/40 ... iarcs%2014mehmet karaman wrote:I don't think Hiarcs 15 is weak.

Hiarcs 14 performance is more better at long time controls.
I think Hiarcs 15 (I expect +100 elo) can't compete with Stockfish, Houdini, Komodo but it can compete with Shredder, Fire, Gull...

It's not the TC, it's the book.mehmet karaman wrote:According to SSDF rating list (40/120) Hiarcs 14 was 52 elo below Komodo 5. 1 and 16 elo below Stockfish 3.

I don't think so.Ozymandias wrote:It's not the TC, it's the book.mehmet karaman wrote:According to SSDF rating list (40/120) Hiarcs 14 was 52 elo below Komodo 5. 1 and 16 elo below Stockfish 3.

Hiarcs.ctg books are very strong but in SSDF tournament they use only free abk books.
"I have contacted the SSDF site and they informed me that the GUI they use for testing is Arena, and therefore the formats accepted are .abk "and .bin "
"Please note that Lars informed me that in order to use an opening book in their test, that book need to be public and not private"

I don't think Hiarcs free abk book is as strong as Hiarcs.ctg books.

Neither do I, but it's likely they're using the HCS version of the commercial book, which is accessed directly by the engine.mehmet karaman wrote:I don't think Hiarcs free abk book is as strong as Hiarcs.ctg books.
