Sugar and a project created in collaboration with Yaroslav Venhrynovych that definitely has more computer knowledge than me.
He did not want to release the code so we dissolved the partnership and I'm broken down by ZERO.
I have always released the source code, and I have never claimed to have made major changes.
I'm not a programmer, I'm just someone who enjoys and wants to learn.
I added book bin, large Pages and changed some strings and values in the code.
Slowly try to change it as much as possible, but I think it is an exaggeration to call it a clone pathetic as judgment.

Hi Marco,

if Sugar is a Stockfish derivative, you should also have a readme file stating that and giving some credit to the Stockfish authors.

Graham.

Hi Graham
is wrote in all code files.. However, if you need to also add Readme file I will definitely

"Sugar, a UCI chess playing engine derived from Stockfish
Copyright (C) 2008-2014 Marco Costalba, Joona Kiiski, Tord Romstad
Sugar is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify
it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or
(at your option) any later version."

Sounds good Marco.
Nobody should be able to criticise you, because you're complying with the GPL.
Best wishes with your project.

Cheers,
Graham.

Why do you want to release something when you are no programmer?
It is fine if you want to learn something but why bother the world with your learning as long as zero substantially is done?

1. You added the book code which was removed from Stockfish by just adding the code which was in Stockfish before.
2. You changed strings.
3. You changed a handful of values(BTW some of them ridiculous).
4. Large Pages were already created in 2013 IIRC by Stockfish Rockwood.

This cannot be called a derivate we should call it a fata morgana...

Actually it is exactly what I always feared. Programs which seemingly 'comply' to GPL and release the source, but add practically nothing and rely on users(with a collectors disease) who have no clue of programming
and on the lazyness of all others who don't want to check the sources.
This happens permanently since years now and I must say only releasing the source shouldn't be enough to be not called cloner!

At the very least call it Stockfish XYZ and don't give it a new name, which it does not deserve.

Hi Guenther,

I don't like derivatives any more than you do, but at least Marco has complied with the GPL.

The problem is there are real derivates and pseudo derivates and even when both comply with the GPL there is a huge difference.
Anyway I hope I have made my point here and I am really bored about this.
