He can also move his knight but we'll be prepared ...

42...Ng4 43.Rg2 and he loses the knight since each knight move ends up in mate;
42...Nf7 43.Ne6+ Kh7 44.Rf8 (threatening 45.Rh2+, thereby winning material and mating soon);
42...Ng8 43.Ne6+ Kh6 (forced) 44.Rg2 and I think we have him in a cage, threatening Nf3, Rh7+ and then Rg5#

and after the single legal reply 41...Kg7, I already vote for:

42.Rf2

This is my vote too.

41.Nxg5+ is my vote also.
I think you can safely take this as our move.

Is everyone also ok with 42. Rf2?...... if so, I will take the moves:

41. Nxg5 Kg7
42. Rf2

I will then come back with the evaluation and all the moves todate with MDC's next move.

Best regards

Seems that those who've posted also agree with the conditional, so go for it. 8-)

Ok it is now time to resign :( .

MDC moves 42. ... Rf7

It probably is as good as any move left, but the evaluation is now -8.00. Therefore MDC concedes.

The best continuation it sees in memory is:

43. Nxf7 Kxf7 44. f6 Be1 45. Ra7+ Kg6 46. Rg7+ -8.00 11/23 =01/16 11/16 *

Here are all the moves:

Your MDC Opponent was:

MEPHISTO BERLIN PRO 68020

Image

The Mephisto Berlin Pro was manufactured by the company Hegener & Glaser. Hegener & Glaser marketed all their chess computers under the Brand Name "Mephisto"

The Berlin Pro came out in 1994 and is a Sensory Board version of the Mephisto Genius Chess Module, The program was written by Richard Lang and is the 1993 World Championship Program Genius 2.0.

BP has a 68020 32 Bit Processor running at 24 MHz with 256 KB ROM and 1024 KB ROM.

It has an Opening Book of 180,000 half moves.

It scores ELO 2255 in the BT-2630 tests. It has a rating of @ ELO 2280 in matches of 30 seconds per move against other Dedicateds and @ ELO 2254 for 40/2hr matches.

At these long time setting used for these Forum Games, I would guess that it plays at @ ELO 2300.

Unfortunately, the position and you (humans) were too strong for it in this match. I tend think that the major mistake made by Black was to take the a-pawn. The focus should have been on getting Black's Queen and other pieces in a position to defend the forthcoming attack on Black's King :P

Anyway, I enjoyed the game a lot, and perhaps we can do this again sometime. Next time your MDC opponent will be a lot tougher :wink:

MDC's demand REVENGE !! regards :P

Very entertaining game, and the first time I've scored anything against Daydreamer in a long time. :) Thanks all, especially Nick and Ray.
