In this thread I asked if there was any interest in a human vs computer chess960 match, this good forum vs a chess engine like Big Lion

http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopi ... at&start=0

This was on the back of the quite successful forum vs Tasc R30 match just completed, which I thought went quite well

I propose to kick off a match as follows:

- Steve B to go to this website http://www.chessgames.com/perl/fischerandom
hit the "new position button" and then post the position number here as the starting position

- the forum plays white
- I run BigLion as black (around 2,000 - 2,200 ELO)
- use of engines is discouraged but not prohibited. The idea is human vs machine, and in this case the match should be winnable by the humans (forum)
- if engines are used, please don't use BigLion
- approx 24 hrs per move
- no time forfeits
- majority vote determines the move. Ties will be resolved as and when they happen

Really no formal rules. The primary objectives are to have a bit of fun, allow the forum a reasonable chance of success by not choosing one of the top engines, and perhaps introduce chess960 to those who haven't had a lot of experience with it before.

In terms of me posting BigLion moves, that will be done either in the morning UK time or the evening UK time, i.e. before and after work for me. I will set BigLion for 12 hrs per move, so that there will always be a move for me to post here before or after work. Where there is a ponder hit of course, BigLion should move straight away I'd imagine. (I may set up remote access to my machine from work, which I have done before with dyndns and remote desktop, and if that is the case things will be a bit more flexible from my side)

Most likely interest will wane during the game, hopefully we will have enough people remaining interested to carry it through to a conclusion.

Does this all sound OK ?

All Sounds good to me
let me know when to post the starting position and if you want a NEW thread for it
will you be updating the current position as the game progresses or do you want me to maintain it along with the PGN in the lead post ?

I think we can use this thread. Why not post the opening position as soon as convenient for you, so people can see what they are in for. Some opening positions are more wierd-ish than others !

It probably isn't practical for you to keep updating the opening thread, so I'll post position updates as they happen

OK.

I quite like that postition - Queens in the corner, 2 bishops side by side. I reckon it will be entertaining :)
