Second on-line blitz tourney

Post by hgm »

It is my intention to have another blitz tourney, just like the one last month, on my ICS, at

Saturday March 7, 9 pm (EST)

Would-be participants, please report in this thread.

There is one "major" problem with the server - it does not send the game result. The effect is that the last game never finishes and the next game won't start.

It should send something like:
{Game 292 (A vs. B) A checkmated} 0-1
{Game 98 (X vs. Y) Unregistered player Y disconnected and forfeits} 1-0
{Game 220 (C vs. D) C forfeits on time} 0-1
{Game 42 (Y vs. Z) Game courtesyaborted by Z} aborted

The Thinker ICS client actually handles this by detecting the game number. But if the old game number is the same as the new game number (which, for some reason, is common case in your server), then it still is a problem.

A few others also experienced the same issue and they were using WinBoard. They too had to close the ICS client and reconnect after each game.

I hope this is already fixed.

Cheers...

I'll be glad to operate something again. I ran Hiarcs on slow hardware last time, if other players would like to see me run something else, I'd be glad to help.

I'm down! I've been anxiously awaiting the next one - I've made some significant improvements to Quadrox. With any luck I'll more than double my number of wins. Which means >= 2 :)

Just how fast is a blitz move. I have a one ply program that makes a move almost instantly. It is not very strong ( an understatement ) but I would like to enter it in some tournements some day.

Last time we had 5 min + 1 sec/move, which amounts to 6 min/game on average. I think everything under 10 min/game is considered blitz. Under 2 min/game (e.g. 1+1) is called bullet.

I had not decided yet, but doing the same as last time (5+1) seems to make sense. If there are few participants, we could do 9+1, and only 5 rounds.

Are you sure about the time? 9pm EST would be 2 am CET which is probably inconvenient for you as well.
