Almost All Java Chess Engines Tested...2021

Post by supersharp77 »

Have fully loaded almost of of the Java Chess engines currently out in the Ether including the Difficult Java engines Detroid, Fischerle and Pirarucu Chess engines..also I had one hell of a hard time trying to get Cuckoochess Java engines to run and also Carbello and Eubos...this is move of a GUI compatibility issue and a OS issue than a purely Chess Engine problem..actually I was able to run most of the xboard/winboard chess engines in Windows XP with a wb2uci adapter and the right setup and many actually played in Fritz or in Chess OK (Almost all run in ChessGUI except for the Java UCI engines like CuckooChess and Carbello etc. Now almost none of these engines run properly in Windows 10 x64 without using either Arena or ChessGUI or SJCE Gui's. I like ChessGUI but the constant engine logging takes up valuable Computer space but I am OK as long a you remember to clear the Debug folder quite often.. otherwise you might have a big problem. One or two engines in particular (Chess Novice) and one other had log files over 1G in size which I found quite disturbing when your drive is short of space...Believe it or not my first Independent GUI many years ago was Arena (2.2.1 I think) but I quickly moved on to Fritz and Chess OK & Lokasoft mainly due to using "Swiss System" tourneys to save time and test as many engines as possible....Arena Swiss Manager does work (my first time!) But you can't actually follow the Crosstable like you would in Banksia Or Fritz or Chess OK..The top Java Chess engines Currently seem to be Pirarucu 3.3.5...Chess22k v1.9 and Bagatur v2.0 followed by Karballo v1.8 and Carballo v1.7. I find these Java engines while not being the strongest have quite interesting Styles and I very much enjoyed watching Kasparov Chess 1.0.0 play and Eubos and Fischerle engines play due to their quite interesting playing styles along the Cave Chess, GnuChess4J, Tiffanys Chess, Cuckoo Chess, Olithink, Alf 1.09 ..JChecs, JChess, Pulse,Frittle and Ziggy 0.7. Also found a Great Gem... Pyotr v2.6 Novice (plays like a amateur)... :)

I've had issues with the latest Fischerle, but none of the others.
