I am testing v12.75 but I have doubts whether I do it correctly.
Up to now I have had no net files in its directory because I thought they were built in the exe. As results have been a bit disappointing so far, I decide to include those files. Are they really needed?
Also, I have noticed that the net files downloaded from here: https://github.com/AndyGrant/Ethereal/t ... rc/weights are different in size from those in the src which I cloned from the depository. Which is the right one?

Re: Ethereal questions
Is Ethereal 12.75 using any net at all ?
If so I have been doing all my testing without it...

Re: Ethereal questions
Yes, a small net for RP endings and another one for KP endings. Both unique. But I'm not sure they are not included in the exe.

Re: Ethereal questions
The weights are compiled into the binary. The weight files are tiny, only something like 40,000 or some parameters. You won't notice a large file size like you do with Shogi Half-KP weights compiled into things like Stockfish.
If you are using a binary I provided, I can promise that the weights are compiled into it. If you compiled your own, you could always run "./Ethereal bench" from the command line. For v12.75, I expect the resulting "OVERALL NODES" to be 4,137,039. There are some floating point operations, but its extremely likely that your bench will match.
As for under-performance, what are we talking? Hundreds of elo weaker? Dozens? Or simple not as much of a jump as you had expected?

Thanks for the answers. My overall nodes are exactly the same as yours.AndrewGrant wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 5:07 pm The weights are compiled into the binary. As for under-performance, I expected better per cents in the table below. But that may improve with time. And I realize now that they are not bad at all. I did not mean to scare you.

What score would you expect against the free version of Komodo 12.1 ? I do NOT believe that Graham is using the Net since Houdini is performing better than Ethereal hereEthereal 12.75 64-bit - Dec 11, Blitz 2 2020

Re: Ethereal questions
Works out of the box. You do not need to change any settings, nor do you even have the ability to. You cannot change the weights. You cannot turn them off. Unless you decide to modify the binary file like a lunatic.Chessqueen wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 5:13 am When you download the ethereal ZIP file does it automatically install the small net for RP endings and another one for KP endings, and if NOT, how do you make it work with Ethereal

This is interesting here two of these programs here are stronger than Komodo 13.1 already including Ethereal https://tcec-chess.com/live.htmlChessqueen wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 3:29 pmWhat score would you expect against Komodo 13.3 ?AndrewGrant wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 5:58 amWorks out of the box.
