Questionable positions in the Hard-Talkchess-2020 set

Post by Vinvin »

Over the 10 past months I saw about 12 positions challenged in different threads.
I don't keep track of them. Let group them here.
So, please repost the positions here to discuss in details.
The id numbers would be useful, see here : http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?p=827072.

Latest review of the set I did with the help of SugaR.AI.ICCF.1.00 :

#18) Be1-d2 -> sometimes this move is found by luck especially with short time control/low depth. Random behavior.
1r3rk1/5p1p/1qb1pPp1/3pP3/p1pP4/PpP2N1R/1Pn1B2P/3RB2K w - - bm Bd2; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.018" ;

#33) Nf7-d6 -> very hard. Only Sting-SF finds it, may be sometimes found by luck ? Random behavior.
2b1r3/r2ppN2/8/1p1p1k2/pP1P4/2P3R1/PP3PP1/2K5 w - - bm Nd6+; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.033" ;

#51) b4-b5 -> may be Qf3 is equal in eval. Wrong solution ?
2r3k1/2b1Rpp1/p2p2qp/P7/1PpB4/2P3PP/5Q1K/8 w - - bm b5; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.051" ;

#76) .. Rh7xh4 -> may be Bf2+ is equivalent (draw). Wrong solution ?
4knQ1/7r/3p2p1/2bP1pP1/5P1N/6K1/8/8 b - - bm Rxh4; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.076" ;

#102) h5xg6 -> very deep. Sometimes found by luck ? Random behavior.
7q/b1p5/1p1Npkb1/pPP2ppP/P1P5/3B2P1/5P1R/K3R3 w - - bm hxg6; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.102" ;

#138) Qh4-d4 -> Sometimes found by luck (several moves at 0.00). Random behavior.
q1r5/k3ppp1/2R5/PP1KP2r/2p4Q/2p1p3/5pP1/3R4 w - - bm Qd4+; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.138" ;

#176) d5-d6 -> e4 is very close in eval. Wrong solution ?
r2qr1k1/pp1bbp2/n5p1/2pPp2p/8/P2PP1PP/1P2N1BK/R1BQ1R2 w - - bm d6; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.176" ;

Note on #204) Bc1-g5 -> This one is correct for me. I received a lot of critics because b4 is close. But not close enough for me : b4=1.80 and Bg5=2.80
rn3r1k/pn1p1ppq/bpp4p/7P/4N1Q1/6P1/PP3PB1/R1B1R1K1 w - - bm Bg5; id "Hard-Talkchess-2020.204" ;

A quick look with IDEA at 10s/pos using SF 2020-12-25, stronger than SF12.

My data is pretty much in agreement. Here are my database records:
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Still doubts about 4 positions :

Code: Select all

 10) Rd6xf6 -> A lot of moves are winning. But only Rxf6 gives a forseable mate. This position will probably stay.
 15) h2-h4  -> Some other moves are close in eval : Bd2, Be3, h3
150) Bd4-f6 -> Qh6 is very close in eval
204) Bc1-g5 -> the score of b4 is high (> 2.5) after a long analyse
