Dragon versus Nakamura

Post by lkaufman »

The new Komodo Dragon will play a match with GM Hikaru Nakamura (World number one in blitz on both chess.com and FIDE, World number four in Rapid per FIDE) on chess.com this Wednesday and Thursday evenings starting at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Time limit 15' + 10", handicap two White pawns, four games each night, eight total. Pawns removed will be b2 + f2, c2 + f2, b2 + g2, and c2 + g2. https://www.chess.com/news/view/hikaru- ... ess-engine. Note that Stockfish (version shortly before NNUE) lost 2 to 1 at similar handicaps to GM Jorden vanForeest, who is much lower rated than Nakamura in Rapid, though the time limit was 30' + 10". Can Dragon do better, at a time limit where Nakamura played on quite even terms with World Champion Magnus Carlsen in many online games this year? Who would you bet on to win the match? Hardware will be my 32 core Threadripper (3970x). I haven't yet decided between standard and MCTS modes, perhaps one mode each night?

It seems to me than Nakamura will be the great favorite here, unless Dragon has something really surprising. I still think Nakamura will be the favorite, but let's see !

I won't say you are wrong; I do hope Dragon can at least score 3 out of 8, so we can say we got a higher percentage score than Stockfish managed against vanForeest at similar handicap. I expect a lot of draws; Dragon will probably save a lot of pawn down endings.

I can NOT find anywhere where GM Nakamura is playing versus Komodo Dragon? https://www.chess.com/news/view/hikaru- ... ess-engine. Where is the direct link ?

The big incognita would be can GM Nakamura give the same Odds to a 2450 human player, or an engine rated between 2450?
