I guess it was a misunderstanding.

Both should calm down and continue as normal without withdrawing event, IMO.

It was meant as a joke but I do completely understand why Chris goes up like a rocket.

I also think it seems to be a misunderstanding, although I too am not a fan of the "established" CC folks.

Would be a real shame not to see the result of Chris' work...literally one of the most creative chess programmers ever.

There are some of your "established CC folks", for whom that's a really unallowed sentiment. Significant that it is also the point the thread got split. Little things, little things to observe. Ho-hum.
Now that CTF is gone, it's now possible to read the main sections of dysfunctional CCC without logging in (the remaining hidden forums are pretty much inactive, and I rarely looked at them anyway). Advantage of read without login is one tends less to get drawn into the dysfunctionality by posting at all, doubtful that others will overlook the new opportunity. Just sign out and next times, no need to sign in. Perfect.

Well, now that we are takening the broader view, perhaps we can use the opportunity to use this thread as a case study for the preferred style of moderation:

Some of the postings in this thread (not nearly the worst, IMO) were just reported with the complaint that they were 'CTF-level'. (Interesting in itself, since they were coming from persons that did their utmost to leep CTF open.)

Problem is that Chris would look pretty silly if I leave his postings, but remove the targets of his uncontrolled anger. So the choice is really between completely removing the entire thread, or just leaving it as it is, so that everyone can decide for himself who are the real shits here.

What do you think? Should these kind of flame wars be deleted altogether, or should they be left up for amusement value? Please provide some feedback!
