Here it talks about Illescas saying 'we also built in some tricks for Gary ... has a psychological impact'

Thanks ! I missed that (small) passage...
BTW, clever way to point to the moment of interest in the youtube video !
Actually, I did not remember that Illescas was so close to the Deep Blue/IBM team (I knew about Benjamin).
And I just found this interesting link :

Re: Deep Blue | Down the Rabbit Hole
It seems that Ibm do not want Deep Blue to play again, for fear it might lose.
Kasparov estimated Deep Blue is 3100 in some positions and 2,300 in others. Which means that if Kasparov had the computer to himself for a few days to investigate all its strengths and weaknesses and played it as is, there is a good chance he would be able to defeat it by targeting its weakness.
Even if there was just a public record of 20 games or so it had played, Kasparov would have had good chances. One of the things I learnt from the video, is how much deep Blue psyched Kasparov out ( who was a good psycher outer himself) when Kasparov thought every sub optimal move or weak move by Deep blue was some diabolical far seeing plot by deep blue and how much this downgraded Kasparov's play.
Of course if the deep blue team had had another year to prepare I believe they could have removed a lot of Deep Blue's weaknesses.

Deep Blue can play again if they decide to let it play again right.
What about an Kasparov - Deep Blue 25th anniversary match

For some silly reason, Ibm seem more concerned about their share price, then a great chess experiment.Nordlandia wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 12:11 pm Deep Blue can play again if they decide to let it play again right.
