Saint Louis Arch Bishops 2020 PRO Chess League Champions; Armenia Eagles Disqualified

The Saint Louis Arch Bishops are the winners of the 2020 PRO Chess League championship. The Armenia Eagles have been disqualified from the 2020 season due to fair play violations.

After a thorough investigation, Chess.com's Fair Play team determined that GM Tigran L. Petrosian, who played for the Armenia Eagles, violated fair play regulations during games in both the semifinal and final matches that took place on September 25 and 27, respectively.

Chess.com and the PRO Chess League have issued a lifetime ban against Petrosian for his actions, and per section F of the league's regulations, the Armenia Eagles have been temporarily banned from participation in future PRO Chess League seasons.

PRO Chess League Commissioner IM Greg Shahade released the following statement:

"It's always unfortunate when the league is presented with evidence of fair play violations, but we stand behind the evidence presented from Chess.com's Fair Play team."

The 2020 title is the third title overall for the Saint Louis Arch Bishops and their second consecutive championship. Both the Canada Chessbrahs and China Pandas will receive $10,000, half of the sum of the second, third, and fourth place prizes.

Georgian chess Grandmaster Gaioz Nigalidze faces a 15 year ban from the game after being caught cheating at the Dubai Open Chess Tournament, where he had been using a smart phone to analyse one of his matches, which he had kept hidden in a toilet.

Nigalidze’s cheating had been discovered by officials during his sixth round with Armenia’s Grandmaster Tigran Petrosian.

Petrosian had told the tournament’s staff he believed Nigalidze was getting help from a chess computer through a portable electronic device during the game. He said he began to suspect his opponent after noticing he was frequenting the toilet after each move during a crucial part of the game.

Is he the late Tigran Petrosian's son? His wikipedia article kinda makes it sound like that but looking at the late Tigran's wikipedia article there's no mention of him having a son named Tigran, just two sons named Vartan and Mikhail.

I don't know which language version of Wikipedia you were reading, but the English version seems pretty clear:

Tigran L. Petrosian was born on 17 September 1984. His first name was deliberately chosen by his father to match the name of Tigran V. Petrosian, the first Armenian to become World Champion. When the late Tigran won the world title, Tigran's father dreamt that if he ever had a son he would call him Tigran. The ex-world champ died a month before Tigran L. Petrosian was born.

Tigran Levoni's father's name will have been Levon Petrosian.

Interestingly, it was GM Tigran L. Petrosian who caught another GM cheating, Gaioz Nigalidze, whose GM title was ultimately stripped.

I suppose it takes a thief to catch a thief.

In the 1925 US Open, the great golfer Bobby Jones, called a penalty on himself when he accidentally touched the ball on the 11th hole. No one was even aware of his his misplay. The penalty cost him the title and he was congratulated later for his honesty, His response, "You might as well praise me for not robbing a bank."
