Is EMAN the future number one?

Post by Glarean »

.

From one of my current engine tournaments a clear and deserved winner emerged: EMAN.

I contacted the Eman programmer Khalid Omar and learned some details about his interesting engine...

The article also takes a closer look at the NN engine LeelaChessZero and its influence on the master players.

Here's the whole report and all downloads:

But Eman is not an engine. It is more like a plugin to a GUI.

But his creator is convinced that Eman is not just an above-averagely successful infusion of SF, but should be considered and respected as a quasi independent engine product: „Today, Eman can no longer be compared to Stockfish,“ says Omar. „My many changes influenced almost every aspect of the original Stockfish from time management to thread synchronization. And that doesn’t just apply to the alpha-beta algorithm, but also to the evaluation part, which is the backbone of any good chess engine“.
The "creator" should make the source code available, showing respect for Stockfish's GPL license. Maybe then his creation might be considered and respected as a quasi-independent engine product.

Opinions differ on that... ;-)

Eman is a uci engine It derivatives from Stockfish engine. Although it contains innovative techniques but it's (Eman 5.40) not stronger than Stockfish dev. Maybe new version (Eman 5.60) is stronger than Stockfish dev. To be sure of this we need more games.

Eman Chimera is a tool to run two or more engines to play the same game.
Move 0 to Move X: A engine is active
Move X to Move Y: B engine is active

Eman Chimerea allows us to use Lc0 and Stockfish together.

Making claims about which engine is best based on 60 games each :D

You're probably right. Seeing the source code might simply show that this "engine" is basically Stockfish.

Please think about that:
  • Statistics are no substitute for personal judgment. (Folk wisdom)
  • When I think of "statistics", I think of the hunter who shot the first time just to the left of a rabbit, and the second time just to the right. On the statistical average, there would be one dead rabbit. (F. Steinkühler)
  • Statistics are like bikinis: They reveal a lot, but hide the most important things. (Folk wisdom)
