Sting 20 doesn't ponder about anything else but the solution, started three times with empty hash repeatedly, always the same at 24 threads of 3x12GHz CPU, 8G Hash (max. for Sting):

Can confirm Black Diamond at Tactical 2 also, Crystal needs MV4 only too to get it quickly.

Indeed, Sting-20 is excellent. It finds the key at depth 3 and the line at depth 7. This is with all setting at default (so, in particular, Threads = 1, giving a deterministic search):

However, solving such positions with search instead of eval looks like the more general solution.
Not sure what Sting is doing.

Dann, would you mind testing Corchess_V6 ?
It's a very interesting engine because it has a very high rating and it solves a lot of positions.

I will give it a try, but my machine is booked right now doing something for me.
I could run it on another machine, but that would not answer the question.

Thanks, Dann !

Is it the machine with 32 cores at 4 GHz ?

One more question : which version of Houdini did you test ? 6.0.3 ?

Yes, I used 32 threads on my 3970x (Arena will not allow me to use all 64 threads).
The machine is pushed to 4 GHz. It has 128 GB RAM. I have full 6 man Nalimov and Syzygy tablebase files on PCIE 4.0 m.2 gumstick SSDs (Really fast and it makes a difference, with an ordinary 1TB thumb drive I was saturating 100% disk access and cutting down NPS to 10% in certain "tablebase mad" positions).
The houdini version tested was 6.03, but not the tactical one, which I am going to test now, along with the "houdidit" version because I am curious to see if the results will be identical.
