It could be hard, but Don't they use an extra camera for the arbiter to constantly watch the entire room and if they see a cell phone or another electronic device where a friend could be sending them the best move then could be disqualified immediately.

PS: Was Bobby Fischer better than Firouzja at the age of 16 ? https://www.magnuscarlsen.com/en/invitational
This is what I found out Bobby Fischer was NOT even close as good as Firouzja at the age of 16, probably because the help of computers and digital database, whereas Fischer only material where weeks old Chess Magazine Journal

I was pretty amazed the other day when Carlsen played the King's Gambit (as White) and then the Scandinavian .. Qa5 (as Black) against Ding Liren. He lost both games. These are not top-level openings: as a GM, you might use them as a surprise weapon, but a super-GM like Ding is hardly going to be surprised by anything. On the other hand, I am over a thousand plus rating points below Carlsen, so I can't criticize much.

Okay, I have things setup and ready to go for the big match today. I hope today is a good day for Naka, history has proven that it is normally not when these two play.

I noticed that Nakamura play much better when he is in front of a computer screen, since he has played so many games online, if the match goes to Armagedon I would give Nakamura the edge ( with so much Online Blitz and Bullet experience}. Now my question is why in serious matches they still have have to use Clocks and annotate their own games, I believe that each players should have a board that automatically annotate games and keep track of both players times. This is the 21st Century, NOT back during the time of Capablanca and Alekhine  https://www.magnuscarlsen.com/en/invita ... hedulelive

As to the recording of games, I agree, most likely it is to preserve chess heritage. I am not sure about the online advantage however, one could see your point about online play. I just don't think it counts so much when he is playing carlsen. As for me, the freaking mouse proves to be my biggest enemy when playing online. While geting lost in my thoughts seems to be my second enemy.

Carlsen won this - he played solidly in the final, and got to demonstrate his fine endgame technique. Nakamura is one of the very top rapid/blitz players, so winning against him is an achievement.

Nakamura disagrees and claims both played really lousy chess:

He could have beaten Carlsen easily but was blundering won positions as well...

Unless a system is found to make cheating online difficult … there will always be some doubt about the results. Especially if results come up where one of the lower rated players wins or plays some incredible game (both of which are possible without cheating). The difference between a Super GM and a normal GM is probably small enough where even a slight amount of help from an engine might make a huge difference. I really think that once prize money goes up … cheating will go up.

Having said that, I really enjoyed this online tournament as there was not much else happening in lockdown. Kudos for Magnus for realizing this and doing something about it.

All he did was accepting the invitation and agreeing to let the tourney have his name, though.
