Is the website down? http://tablebase.sesse.net

Post by daniel71 »

Has anybody else having trouble reaching this website? I have been trying to download the remaining syzygy tablebases Chessbase didn't include in Endgame 4 discs and think either I have been blocked or the site is down. No I didn't use a download accelerator just the recommended Get them All extension.

He blocks you for using "Download them All" software? Says site is up, this site is a waste of time. Thanks for the link!

The server
may not live forever and be taken down one day (probably sooner than later
if people keep using download "accelerators"), but until then, enjoy the
10 gigabits of tablebase goodness.

Recommended by whom exactly? On sesse.net, I don't see such a recommendation. I think you have been nullrouted because you didn't respect the big note right at the top.

I am using wget one file at a time.
So far: 2002 File(s) 892,962,229,171 bytes

I'd say that is a pretty good haul.
If he had a contributions link, I would send him some money.

He explicitly wrote that he did not use a download accelerator.

The purpose of using the "get them all" extension seems to be to automate the download of all the files, which is entirely reasonable. The question is if the extension downloads them one by one or all in parallel.

I found another mirror to download the full Syzygy 6-piece tablebases and Download them All works perfect on this website. https://tablebase.lichess.ovh/tables/
So I'm happy now, I will have them soon on all my devices.

I finished the Nalimov download today, with 100% checksum validation.
A happy day, now I have the DTM database files on PCIE 4.0 m.2 gumstick SSDs that do 5 GB/sec
Those tablebase files seem to offer engines much shorter mates or clear paths when the Syzygy TBs only say ce 14489 or some such, indicating a win, but not knowing how far.
With the Syzygy 6 man files on similar SSD, I am ready to cook with gas

I also bought 120 TB storage array which should allow full Syzygy 7 man files. I am leery, though, of the download time. The Nalimov files took almost a week and the Syzygy files are more than 100 times larger.
Two years to download? There must be a better way

Hmm, I was thinking of the Lomonosov file size, I think the Syzygy is less than 20 TB, so not so bad.
