A lot of real old school chess player abandoned CC play before 2000's years. Fearing from computers and/or lacking enough money.

By the way, a used GTX 1060 is around $150 in the U.S. and that should be enough to greatly exceed any human's abilities, including positional (if that makes sense still) with LC0. I don't think this qualifies as expensive. And any cheap CPU will make SF way better than the best humans if you want to go deep in any position to find "tactics."

If you really want a better system you can build one on a budget. In the US it can be done on the cheap with all new hardware. In other countries it will likely be a little more expensive than if built in the US. But, it will still be cheaper than buying one AND you get to pick the most appropriat parts for your needs! If you buy it pre-built it will, of course, be more expensive.

For long time control analysis the most important thing is getting enough RAM. The more the better. It doesn't have to be the fastest RAM. It's more important to have a lot of it. Even more important than the speed of the CPU. If you also want to run Lc0 at a "reasonably" fast speed then an RTX graphics card is a must at least for the bigger nets. A new RTX 2060 can be had at about $300. Like mmt pointed out a used one can be found for less. It's “REALLY” not that hard to build a system. It might be a little stressful if you haven't done it before, but when you are finished it will be worth it. If you want help picking parts to put a system together there are plenty of people on this board that can help.
