Fun mate in 7 with king walk and 4 pieces checks

Post by xr_a_y »

[pgn][FEN "r7/3nqp2/3p2k1/r3p1P1/2p5/1PP1PN2/1BK4Q/3R4 w - - 0 31"]

31. Qh6+ Kf5 32. Nh4+ Ke4 33. Qh7+ Kxe3 34. Bc1+ Kf2
35. Qf5+ Kg3 36. Qf3+ Kxh4 37. Rh1#[/pgn]

This position was reached in one of my own game recently. The opponent was running out of time and it feels like winning to me. Many / all lines are mate for white, but the shortest one is not that easy to find. It involves giving up a pawn and the knight.

Code: Select all

18 9987 2056 27280482 52 1326 0	h2h6 g6f5 f3h4 f5e4 h6h7 e4e3 b2c1 e3f2 h7f5 f2g3 f5f3 g3h4 d1h1
There is as least 2 lines like that, as f5f3 g3h4 d1h1 can be replaced by d1g1 g3h4 f5g4
