When the draws at TCEC become boring enough, they can switch to oddsmatch.epd for the openings.

Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

Dann, does this affect the mate results you gave on Fri Aug 28, 2020 9:44 pm, or are they still valid?

I did not recalculate them.
I have, however, done some recalculation with "Frank's Red Hots"

So BD stays with the score #19 at depths 20 and higher. At lower depths, there is some regression. It first announces #19 at depth 8, but that immediately becomes #20 at depth 9.

How can it be "forgetting" mate scores at such low depths? :?:

("Forgetting" presumably means some analysis must be overwritten somewhere, which seems a bit surprising at depth 8. The much-denied alternative of course is that mate scores that disappear may just be wrong.)

It may be interesting to check also 1.e4 that has the disadvantage of blocking Qf3xb7 but seem more natural from human point of view.

The possible advantages of 1.e4 over 1.e3 are if the c1 Bishop can help mate faster, and if the d5 and f5 squares need covering for a mate in the middle of the board. I think very few lines show the c1 Bishop being used. Of course, that might be because the engine's already committed to 1.e3, rather than the other way round.

The advantage of 1.e3 is it doesn't get in the way, not just of the a8-h1 diagonal but the fourth rank, e.g. for the Q to sweep across from K-side to Q-side.

I could show by analysis after going forward and backward that 1.e4 is mate in at most 13 moves.

possible line is 1.e4 a6 2.Qh5 h6 3.Qe5 d6 4.Qxg7 c6 5.Qg8+ Kd7 6.d4
1.e4 h6 2.Qh5 a6 transpose and black has nothing better than it.
1.e4 h6 2.Qh5 c6 3.Qe5 is also winning.
